Meditation is like a vacation for the mind...this introductory class will focus on the practice of meditation with a brief discussion, gentle, preparatory yogic stretches, and a sampling of four meditation techniques: seated breath awareness, walking meditation, Tibetan singing bowls and meditative Sanskrit chanting, and vipassana (insight) meditation. An olfactory feast featuring some of the world's most exotic and precious essential oils. Bring the benefits of fragrance into your life to enhance health and happiness, and experience three Asian Bodywork techniques--a Lao fragrant footbath, Thai Steamed Herbal-Ball massage, and Indian Ayurvedic Aromatherapy--that incorporate essential oils from fragrant woods, purifying resins, intoxicating flowers and perfumed roots. Slow down and tune in to peace, in this deeply nurturing and calming class...Restorative Yoga is a very gentle and healing yoga practice for everyone. Postures are done on floor mats, completely supported by cushions, blankets, props and eye pillows, focusing on restoring balance to the nervous and immune systems. No effort necessary. You start this afternoon class by enjoying an herbal foot soak and a beverage. Then you learn to give and receive reflexology foot massage. You will learn how pressing on points on your feet can help increase circulation, detoxification, and immunity for the whole body. Plus, it feels great! Bring a friend or come alone. The aromatic, wonderful rich sweet taste of good honey brings a smile to anyone who eats it. Honey is a versatile, healing, yummy substance manufactured by honeybees. We’ll discuss the importance of the bees & the sustaining products they produce. Join with Laura, of Purple Shutter Herbs, as we explore the many wonders of honey. To demonstrate the wide range of both honey’s & beeswax’s usage together we’ll make a honey cleansing scrub [cosmetic], beeswax votive candles [craft], a honey confection [culinary] & an all natural wound salve [medicinal]. We’ll be using local Vermont beeswax & honey. "Well," said Pooh, "what I like best -- " and then he had to stop and think. Laura, from Purple Shutter Herbs & adventurous cook, will be your head chef for having fun while putting together some inventive additions to your cooking. To add extra tang to your hot dogs or potato salad, we’ll develop a spicy mustard. How about upgrading those dainty tea sandwiches or that delicious ear of corn with herbed butter, which can bring a new dimension to the ordinary. Would you like to prepare ethnic food, but don’t know where to find those exotic spice blends? The solution is simple make them yourself! We’ll prepare a few & provide recipes for many more. The Pilates philosophy focuses on training the mind and body to work together toward the goal of overall fitness. Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. This class will move through a series of body positions using breathing and relaxation techniques. Strengthening your "core" group muscles gives a platform from which to improve all areas of fitness.
