Warm today cooler tomorrow

Today’s forecast called for cloudy skies with a chance of rain showers late. The forecast was correct, but it did not mention sunshine and thunder. The day started cloudy and then became sunny. The clouds then rolled back in midday with a little thunder in the distance. Then it rained for a little while before the sun came back out in the afternoon. The conditions were spring-like today, with temperatures in the 40s. I would have to say that Upper FIS was my trail pick of the day. The weather is going to change again, with temperatures falling throughout the night. Higher elevations will reach the freezing point around midnight, and the base area will reach the freezing point shortly before sunrise. This may delay some lift openings in the morning due to grooming operations. Please check the report in the morning for the most up-to-date information to plan your day on the slopes. Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with all 8 lifts operating. We have 64 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 31 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Smugglers’ Alley, Snow Snake, Upper FIS, Waterfall, Hibernator, Birch Run, and Howie’s Wanderer for a total of 128 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and loose granular with average base depths of 10 to 34 inches. Currently, it is partly cloudy and 39 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies with scattered snow showers, a half inch of accumulation possible with a high of 36 degrees at the base and 28 degrees at higher elevations.
