Inside a Snow Cat

3 Mountain Logo

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Last Friday, I took a ride in a Snow Cat (aka Grooming Machine) with Noah Hall, and I saw how our downhill trails are groomed. I’ll get back to that in a moment. For today, 33 trails have been groomed for a total of 178 acres of freshly groomed terrain. We have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains, with 6 Lifts operating, including Madonna I, and 36 trails open with terrain for all abilities.

Back to the Snow Cat cabin. Noah showed me how the Groomers get it done. It is a complex operation. There are 2 control knobs for steering and moving backwards and forwards. 3 joy sticks control the blade in front (it looks like a plow) and the tiller & carpet in the back. The control monitors could be beamed in from the Starship Enterprise or Millennium Falcon. The Grooming Crew also has to coordinate with each other on the slopes. It takes a high skill level and a bit of artistry to operate these machines. Here’s to Noah and the rest of the Groomers!!!
