Riding into the weekend

3 Mountain Logo

It was another great day on the slopes. I went snowboarding this morning on Morse Mountain. I had a blast carving up the corduroy. I traded in snowboard for skis and headed to Sterling Mountain next. I went and checked out the snowmaking operations in the Zone Terrain Park on Practice Slope. I also went searching for fresh tracks in the trees on Sterling and was successful. The Madonna 1 came off wind hold early in the afternoon. The partly sunny skies made me decide to head up Madonna Mountain and take in all the views from Drifter. I also wanted to see how big the drifts are with all this snow and today’s wind. The winds are forecasted to be lighter tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with all 8 lifts operating. We have 76 out of 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 14 to 50 inches. 38 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Snow Snake, Howie’s Wanderer, Smugglers’ Alley, Thomke’s, Drifter, and skiers’ right on Upper FIS for a total of 196 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is 6 degrees at the summit of Sterling with partly cloudy skies. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies early, a chance of snow showers late half an inch of accumulation possible with a high of 17 degrees at the base and 12 degrees at higher elevations. There is a Winter Storm Warning starting tomorrow night with up to 14 inches of new snow by Monday! The feature photo is Ethan on Upper Drifter with Mount Mansfield in the background.

I was lucky enough to meet long time Smuggs family member Eric this afternoon on Madonna Mountain
Why do they call this trail Drifter?
