It is hard to believe that yesterday was sunny with a high of 60 degrees. Temperatures fell through the night. Rain turned to snow and we received 2 inches of accumulation. Our groomers waited for the thermometer to drop below freezing before hitting the slopes. This provides a better surface condition and also helps preserve the snowpack. Lift operations will be delayed due to the postponed start of grooming operations. All Morse Mountain lifts will open at 9 am today. We plan to open the Sterling Lift at 10 am and it is experts only today. Madonna Mountain will be closed, so that our groomers can work their magic on the trails today. Today we plan to have 5 lifts operating, Sterling, Mogul Mouse’s Magic, Morse Highlands, Village, and Sir Henry’s Glider. We have 21 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 13 trails have been groomed on Morse Mountain for a total of 70 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 10 to 46 inches. Currently, it is snowing and 19 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 15 to 25 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for snow showers with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible, a northwest wind gusting to 40 mph with a high of 36 degrees at the base and 31 degrees at higher elevations.

Best conditions possible: Natural snow trails will remain closed today. The new snow that we received last night is sitting on top of wet snow. If you ski or ride on the new snow the moisture will be pulled to the top. The cold air hits the wet snow and then it sets up. If left alone the new snow will insulate the wet snow below and the wet snow will have time to drain instead of freezing. This also allows the existing snow to bond with the new snow. Thank you for your patience!
