Good and getting better

3 Mountain Logo

The 9 inches of heavy snow we received in the past 24 hours has been a game changer. We had 35 trails open yesterday, and now we have 61 trails open. I want to thank our patrollers because it takes quite a bit of work to open 26 trails! I also would like to shout out to our lift staff. Cleaning 9 inches of heavy snow off all the chairs and digging out is no easy task. The 9 inches of new snow skied more like it was a foot and a half, because it was dense you would stay more on top. The temperatures will be falling a little bit, so the snow that we receive tonight and tomorrow will be drier. This will be the icing on the cake. We are supposed to have some wind tonight and tomorrow also. To help capture the new snow on the steeper terrain, we will leave some of those trails ungroomed. I’m referring to trails like Upper FIS, Thomke’s Express, and Smugglers’ Alley. Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. 31 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, that’s a total of 120 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are powder and packed powder with average base depths of 10 to 40 inches. Currently, it is still snowing, and 27 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tonight’s forecast calls for snow showers with 5 to 9 inches of accumulation. Tomorrow’s forecast is snow showers and another 5 to 9 inches of accumulation possible, and windy, with a high of 26 degrees at the base and 20 degrees at higher elevations. Rest up so you’re ready for another powder day.

I would like to give a shout-out to Ski Patroller Rena for dropping ropes all over the place on Madonna today! Timing is everything.
