We received 6 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours, 15 inches in the past 3 days, and 30 inches in the past week! We received new snow 11 out of the past 12 days with a total 46 inches. The snow has really been building up and the conditions are spectacular! Ski Patrol were busy this morning dropping ropes and I was busy hitting every freshly opened trail. I skied the traverse from Upper FIS over to Black Hole for my first run. I headed over to Robin’s Run for my second run. I then ran into my good friends Tony and Dave at the base of Madonna. Patrol dropped the rope on the Headwall, so we had to do it! Patrol then opened Freefall from the top. We knew what we had to do. I headed straight for the big drift on the skier’s left side and enjoyed some amazing deep powders turns! Many people today were saying this might be the day of the season and they might be right. The snow quality is fantastic with daily refills and consistent cold temperatures. Tomorrow we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including Madonna 1. We have 76 out of 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are powder and packed powder with average base depths of 14 to 46 inches. 39 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Dixie’s Knoll, Snow Snake, Smugglers’ Alley, Lower Pipeline, Drifter, and Upper FIS full width for a total of 204 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is 16 degrees at the summit of Sterling with clear skies and winds of 5 to 10 mph. We could see 1 to 3 inches of new snow tonight. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for snow and sleet early, freezing rain between 1pm and pm, then snow after 2 pm 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible, windy with a high of 33 degrees at the base and 29 degrees at higher elevations.
