Our trail count has dropped today, but will it start increasing again tomorrow. Yesterday we had temperatures above freezing and the snowpack was pretty wet. Today the temperature has dropped on the upper mountains and the snowpack is frozen again. Many natural snow trails on Sterling are closed today because of the surface condition and not the snow coverage. There is snow in the forecast for tonight, with up to 5 inches of accumulation possible. This new snow will help the surface conditions on the natural snow trails. We have some great snowmaking temperatures headed our way starting tomorrow night and into the weekend. Our snowmaking staff is ready to fire up as soon as the temperatures allow. Today we have the Sterling Lift, Sir Henry’s Glider, and Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift open to mid-station. We have 9 trails open today with terrain for all ability levels. All 9 trails have been groomed for today, for a total of 39 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 8 to 38 inches. Currently, it is cloudy and 26 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies with snow developing late in the day, a high of 35 degrees at the base and 29 degrees at higher elevations.
